“Designing Fluid Interfaces” from WWDC2018

Many people say that Apple rocks when it comes to UI design. Of course, I’m not saying Android or other platforms are worse, but there’s something that makes a difference. Maybe a huge difference. They have consistent design language, they have their unique style. But in my opinion, they absolutely do make amazing animations. Sometimes, their products almost feel like extensions of my own body.

Mostly, many people would take it for granted. Even I did, until I recently watched a video from WWDC2018. It’s an hour-long video where they explain techniques they used to create the iPhone X interface. And this video gave me a lot of chills. Aside from actual implementations, there were actually many thoughtful considerations in the design process itself. It’s really inspiring! I strongly recommend watching the video.

Lastly, here are my favorite parts of the presentation!

"Instead of finding the nearest endpoint to the PIP, when we throw, we can calculate it's projected position and move there instead."

“I can launch an app and realize, oh, actually I need to go to multitasking, and I can interrupt the app and go straight to multitasking, while the app is launching.”
